I am just back from an action-packed day at the London Book Fair 2018 at Olympia, in the good company of fellow writer Julianne Ingles, (debut novel ‘Green Water, Gray skies’).
The Book Fair reminds you of just how awe-inspiring the publishing industry is. Often writers much prefer to put their heads down and do the creative bit, however understanding the industry is essential. I would heartily recommend attending the event next year, (12-14 March 2019) as there is always a full programme of seminars. I chose a seminar run by Nielsen Books, which included analysis of its annual survey that explored book trends and buying behaviours. Additionally, another seminar of interest was one that focused on Kindle publishing. It helped that the panel included successful self-published authors: Mark Dawson, L J Ross and Joseph Alexander. Having a generous and lively panel really keeps an audience engaged in what sometimes can feel like information overload. Still processing it all now.
London Book Fair 2019 is a must.
